"In the original Grimm’s Fairy Tale, the mermaid who fell in love with the Prince and then went to the witch dies by floating away on the tide. The other girl got the Prince. The little mermaid is given a last chance to live when her sisters approach the witch themselves. The girl is told to kill the Prince so she might live. The noble mermaid girl cannot do it. She still loves him, so she foams away. I have often thought she must have gone to God first, but she was too young to hear him above the roar of love."
