The artist wanted to depict the meaning of ‘piano' which means to be performed softly, in music. The P letter in pale pink standing upside down has been circling its life for 20 years of time protecting herself. This specific design of Barbie was born during her early Barbie work 20 years ago. It’s like the artist herself, like p, who went through and overcame obstacles in life holding onto softness like in music, pp(pianissimo), p(piano), mp(mezzo piano).
Story of Barbies
There is always music in Jeongwon Yoon’s studio. Yoon is a classical music fan and starts her work day with the sound of Choral Music. The classic radio stations become like a friend for the artist. For Yoon, Barbie is a musical note within the music that she can see and hear.
