The Brush with Cancer Program by Twist Out Cancer

The Brushes With Cancer program at WSU featured 17 Artists from its Art, Art History, Art Education, and Art Therapy departments, who were matched with anyone touched by cancer – previvors, survivors, and caregivers – from around the country. After getting to know each other, each artist created a unique piece of artwork that represented their Inspiration’s personal journey with cancer.

Kim was selected among the 17 artists and created 'Kindling' after a number of virtual meetings with Inspiration(Eddie). The first edition was donated to Twist Out Cancer and the work was on display from May 18 - June 15 at the Art Department Gallery Wayne State University, MI.

Artist Note

I was exchanging emails with Eddie and he mentioned “…Yes, cancer made me cry but it didn’t make me quit. I found the ‘can’ in cancer and now use my test as a testimony to pursue my dream and help others do the same." For me, he sounded like a fire. His heart was burning with passion and love. A passion to be spread, a love to be shared.

This is one Kindling I bring to you. May this create a little spark in you. How small or how big, it would not matter. A small fire can burn a whole mountain. Then a small hope is enough for your mountain to be moved.
