In 2022, Waterfall partnered with The Faulkner Design Group for their interior design project at The Laurel, a luxury skyscraper in the historic Rittenhouse Square neighborhood of Philadelphia, PA, to develop site-specific art content with artist David C. and Jinwon C. for their private condominium corridors and lobby areas. Named for Pennsylvania’s state flower, The Laurel is located on what was the last undeveloped parcel on Rittenhouse Square and has taken luxury living to new heights spanning 48 stories.
Working with master silk-screener Gary Lichtenstein in his Jersey City studio, Mana Contemporary, the silkscreen monoprints were created using original paintings and hand painted background by Jinwon Chang as a road map, before and after printing, to find delicate balance between paintings and silkscreening. As a result, each print is uniquely made for The Laurel development and is installed on over 20 floors of the private condominiums corridors.
Calligraphy artist, David Chang, developed an art commission for the lobby/reception area at The Laurel. Based on the history of the neighborhood of Rittenhouse Square, the three artworks are inspired by quotes from astronomer/inventor David Rittenhouse. Alongside the artwork are plaques with the full quote for additional context.
