Shin Youngho is a scholar and a Korean artist specializing in ink painting. He received his bachelor's and Master's degrees in Oriental Painting, complemented by his doctoral studies in the Comparative Study of Calligraphy and Painting at CAFA University in Beijing, China.
Since 2011, he has persistently explored the core principles of Eastern traditional techniques, known as 'Ink and Wash' (Shuimo, in Chinese) in today's context. He questions the foundations of painting and contemporary interpretations of traditions and delves into calligraphic art, accentuating brushstrokes that echo the rhythm of breathing, symbolizing the restoration of life, making each stroke a meditation, much like air itself.
Shin Youngho explores the essence of Shuimo in the contemporary era, and incorporates calligraphic strokes within his paintings, harmoniously integrating both drawing and writing simultaneously. This approach reflects an acceptance of Eastern and Western expression methods, transcending traditional and modern boundaries in ink painting interpretation.
Shin Youngho is a professor in the Deptartment of Fine Arts at Kyungpook National University in Seoul, Korea. His works have been exhibited in Seoul and China at prominent galleries such as Lexus Gallery, Gong Art Space, Dax Art Space, Dukwon Gallery, and 視覺行走 神暢 Gallery. His works were exhibited along group exhibitions such as at the CAFA Museum in Beijing, China; Seoul Art Exp 2023, Jeonnam International SUMUK Biennale since 2018, Korean Painting Society Exhibtiion, Seoul, Korea and Asian & African and Mediterranean International Modern Art Exhibition; to name a few.
