MELODIE PROVENZANO

ARTIST BIO & STATEMENT

Melodie Provenzano is an American contemporary artist recognized for her meticulously crafted still-life paintings and drawings. Her work features intricate compositions of glassware, ribbons, toys, figurines, and other objects, arranged to create surreal environments that evoke narrative depth. Through these carefully constructed scenes, she invites viewers to assign meaning to the relationships between objects, transforming them into visual storytelling.

Known for her hyper-realistic technique, Provenzano seamlessly blends personal narratives with symbolic imagery. Whether isolating a bow against a neutral backdrop to explore its dimensional and metaphorical significance or incorporating it into complex compositions, she masterfully captures the transient emotional states embedded within everyday objects. Her smaller framed works, in particular, offer a visually textured experience, bringing vibrancy and depth to her signature motifs.

A graduate of Parsons School of Design (BFA, 1996), Provenzano lived and worked in New York City until 2020. During her early career, she honed her skills while freelancing for luxury fashion brands such as Saks Fifth Avenue, Donna Karan, Louis Vuitton, Ferragamo, Chanel, and Hermès, creating window displays, showroom pieces, and commissioned artworks. Simultaneously, she developed her fine art practice, leading to exhibitions at institutions such as The Brattleboro Museum (VT), The Chelsea Art Museum (NYC), and Geoffrey Young Gallery (MA). Her solo shows have been presented at venues including Lyons Wier Gallery (NYC), Goya Contemporary (Baltimore), Carrie Secrist Gallery (Chicago), The University School of Nashville (TN), and Nancy Margolis Gallery (NYC).

Beyond visual art, Provenzano has explored music under the name Connie Acher, releasing five LPs on Flipped Out Records and her latest album, For Giving, on UK label Golden Lab.

She currently lives and works in the countryside near Nashville, TN.

Provenzano skillfully blends personal storytelling with metaphorical imagery. Whether isolating a bow against a neutral backdrop to explore its sculptural and symbolic qualities or integrating it into elaborate narrative scenes, she creates whimsical yet thought-provoking reflections on life’s fleeting emotions. Her smaller framed works, in particular, showcase a vibrancy and depth that draw the viewer into their rich textures.
