"A blossom of gas and dust, the Rosette Nebula is an active star nursery. At its center is a cluster of newly-created stars that shine in an open area created by gusting solar winds. The dark, branching channels on the left of the image are star chambers, regions of intense gravity and heat, and the birthplace of new stars.

Every winter I look forward to the appearance of the Rosette Nebula in the night sky, like an annual reunion with an old friend. Each year I take a new picture, a chronicle of my experience as an astrophotographer. This is my 2020 image of this elegant nebula."-Gary Lopez
